I'm now studying N2 with the kanzen master series and I'm almost done with the kanji book. I think I did maybe 2 or 3 lessons per day with the kanji and I did 1 chapter a day for the grammar. The kanji and grammar probably took the most time. The reading took about 2 weeks to finish. The listening book I finished in maybe a week. I also used the Sou Matome grammar book a bit but didn't fully get through it like I did with the kanzen master. I'd brought all the N3 kanzen master books from home, so I started doing chapters of each book every day. But pure textbook studying was probably about 2 to 3 hours a day.Īfter the 4 months of study, I began seriously studying for the N3. It's hard to pinpoint how much time I spent each day for Japanese at this period, because everything was Japanese. All of my lectures were also in Japanese so I had to study things like Information theory and electric power systems in Japanese so I was kinda forced to learn relevant kanji and vocab and also read proper native textbooks. There I took 2 more Japanese courses and then I also self studied N4 grammar points and a bit of N3. Starting April, I was on an exchange term in Japan. I mostly messed around a bit on Memrise with N4 vocab.

If you have any further advice or recommendations regarding how to study for the JLPT, I'd be thankful to hear it.Ī little bit hard to say how much I studied over the past year since I've been through internships and school terms so I've had varying degrees of freedom.įrom the time I took N5 which was December of last year, until April, I'd say I didn't have that much progress. Once the current semester is over (in 1 week), I plan to start studying several hours a day.

My university caused me to go slow in 2016 (~30-60 minutes a day).

  • also music, anime, comedy shows, although usually with subtitles.
  • for grammar NihongoNoMori and Japanese the Manga Way (I also plan to start using TaeKim).
  • evening class once a week (currently at Chapter 3 of Japanese For Busy People Volume 2).
  • My question is therefore: Is it possible to get from N5 to N3 within 1 year? Otherwise, maybe it would be better to plan the N4 for December in the first place, in order to have more study time? (and to save money) If I fail, I repeat in December if I pass, I try N3 in December. My initial idea was to take the N4 in July. I would like to take a JLPT test this year, possible dates available are one in July and one in December.
